Paint booth rotors
It is quite impossible to imagine today's large-size paint booths in the automotive industry without rotary heat recovery systems. The economic benefits are indisputable.
Paint - application systems today are in constant use, maintenance intervals are growing and this requires heat recovery systems with high standards of operation safety.

Function principle
The honeycomb wheel turns continually between the warm exhaust and the cold supply air currents. The wheel transfers the heat and humidity from the exhaust air directly into the cold supply air current. Up to 70% of the heat and humidity in the exhaust air stream can be saved and recycled.

Storage mass
Advantages of the reinforced segmented version
Foil:
- Thickness: 0,08 - 0,12 mm (80-120 microns)
- Segments: 8 -12 pcs
Advantages:
- Full use of the entire flow surface, no “dead” zones.
- No corrosion risk.
- Solid form and strength guarantee through bolted connections of all segment plus an outer tensioning ring.
Disadvantages of version with con-rods and lifting eyes
Foil:
- Thickness: 0,12 mm (120 microns)
- Segments: 8 -12 pcs
Disadvantages:
- Flow surface loss of >10 % through installation of con-rods.
- Increased risk of corrosion through „dead zones“ in the vicinity of the con-rods
- The rigidity of all segments is only realized by the use of the outer tensioning ring.

- Disassembling and reassembling the entire rotor segments is necessary causing a downtime of 2-3 days.
Sealing
The circumferential seals are self-adjusting and permanently adapt to the rotation of the rotor wheel.
Highly efficient sealing systems minimize the loss of air due to leaks.
Cleaning chamber
The double cleaning sector prevents entry of exhaust air into the supply air due to entrained rotation of exhaust air within the rotor matrix. This purge effect is obtained due to the pressure difference between the outside air and the extract air.
Chamber air sealing
Advantages:
- Avoidance of icing on the gaskets
- Scavenging air function and double-sided sealing air function with one system
- Avoidance of condensation in the casing
- Bearing area remains clean and dry
- Explosion-proof of the device by overpressure with “clean” air
- Pollution-resistant cleaning device by means of overpressure operation
- Only one ventilator with low drive power necessary
- Reduced need for maintenance
- Increased operational safety
- Ventilator could be integrated into casing
- No additional space required, turbulent-free incoming flow
- No connection channels necessary
Drive motor
- AC current drive motors
- Brand: i.e. SEW, Baur, CSM and others.
- 1,1 - 4 kW
- With encompassing drive belt SPB or SPC, pre-stretched with low expansion characteristics.
- V-Belt tensioning with sprung motor rocker through own weight or with an over dimensioned spring, bolt and washer.
Cleaning devices
Independent of the type of deposition process or the filter levels used in the exhaust air - paint shop rotors are exposed to strong contamination.
Due to the various paints and exhaust air treatment processes used in surface technology, the cleaning of the rotors demands the highest standards.
The cleaning must fulfill two functions:
- Cleaning of paint particles on rotor wheel surface
- Removal of substances in the exhaust air which will induce corrosion of the rotor wheel (especially in case of wet paint deposition due to concentration of system tank water)
The selection of the optimum cleaning methods depends on the degree of contamination of the rotor and the exhaust air's paint deposition process.
